On a gloomy Sunday WHCC took on New Milford. It was pressure game for both the teams as New Milford had already lost to WHCC in the T20 finals, they had lost their last 3 games in the league and WHCC needed to maintain their winning streak.
NMCC won the toss and decided to bat first. Raj. A & Nikhel Thapar opened the bowling for WHCC. Both the bowlers did exceptionally well & bowled a disciplined line & length. NMCC opening batsmen were finding it really difficult to score runs. Most impressing thing about WHCC opening bowlers was that they bowled only 3 wides between them. Raj. A got took the 1st wicket of Saad Khan who tried to hit the bowler over mid off but ended up giving an easy catch to Jignesh who was at mid off. The next batsman to walk in was Brain Murphy. As WHCC opening bowlers were making life miserable for the batsmen by not giving them any runs, they were trying to take sharp singles. While trying to do so NMCC capt Jay Singh was run out and the fielder again involved with this was Jignesh, who was very quick in throwing the ball to keeper (Praneeth) who did the rest to send Jay Singh back. At this time the NMCC score was 20 for 2 in 10 overs. After 10 overs WHCC skipper Prasad got the spinners into the attack as Brain Murphy was still at the wicket and was looking good. Prasanna & Krishna.V were introduced and both of them continued from where the opening bowlers had left. Both the spinners did not give any room for the batsmen to go after them and kept things very tight. Again not able to score runs and irritated the NMCC batsmen took chances by running risky runs. The WHCC fielders were like tigers on the prowl. They never missed an opportunity & got their throws right at the stumps and NMCC had 4 run outs in their innings. The best of them had come from the skipper of WHCC who ran Brain Murphy out with a brilliant direct hit from short mid wicket and Murphy was caught way outside his crease. Madhu Reddy was exceptional in the field yesterday as he took 2 catches and he had 2 run outs to his name. Once Brain Murphy was run out, the NMCC did not have enough courage to play off their 40 overs and the WHCC just ripped apart the NMCC tail. Madhu Reddy & Prasanna ended up taking two wickets each. Raj. A and Krishna.V took one wicket each and NMCC were all out for a mere 78.
All WHCC had to do was to go in and get those runs comprehensively. They started the proceedings well when Prasad & Jonathan opened the batting for WHCC. Both the batsmen looked as solid as a wall. They were getting runs very quickly. The WHCC score was 20 for no loss in 5 overs. Jonathan (16) was looking very good as he had hit a huge six over square leg for Sammy. Jonathan who was looking brilliant got out for a good catch. Immediately after Jonathan was dismissed Prasad (11) got out for a brilliant catch by Nabeel Khan at short covers. At this time the score was 24 for 2 in 7 overs. Satish Illa & Krishna.V were at crease and both the batsmen again were trying to consolidate the damage. At this time all it had required for both the batsmen was to drive WHCC home without losing any more wickets. When the score was about 30, Satish Illa (5) tried to hit a big six over mid wicket off Brain Murphy but was caught on the boundry line. Nikhel Thapar (0) joined Krishna.V at the crease. He played his first ball and was very unfortunate to have given LBW decision for a ball which was going way down the leg stump. Prasanna joined Krishna.V. After a couple of overs Krishna.V who was looking good until then played a rubbish shot to Murphy again and got caught at slips. At this point of time WHCC had lost 5 wickets for 40 runs in 14 overs. They needed another 39 runs to win. Prasanna was joined by Praneet. Both these batsmen played sensible cricket. Prasanna especially played a very patient knock and adjusted himself to situation of the game. Prasanna & Praneet took the score till 63 when Praneet (14) again fell for bad umpiring and was given out LBW for a ball which clearly had hit the bat first. Prasanna who was joined by Naveen wrapped up the game for WHCC. Prasanna remained not out on 25. Naveen was not out on 5.
A total which could have been chased without losing more than 2 wickets WHCC got to the total in 26 overs loosing 6 wickets. Prasanna was the Man of the match for his brilliant bowling and a match saving knock of 25*.
Great food and some Bud Lite after the game was a perfect ending for a great day. WHCC showed the other teams that they have one of the best bowling attacks in the league and getting NMCC for 78 has surely send some strong signals to all the teams.
1, 2, 3, GO WHCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
